Dierks Bentley Plays Tom Petty's Guitar In Video For Cover Of 'American Girl'

Dierks Bentley Plays Tom Petty's Guitar In Video For Cover Of 'American Girl'

Dierks Bentley recently shared a music video for his cover of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' "American Girl."

The video shows Bentley playing Petty's own Rickenbacker guitar, flown in from the rock icon's archives in California for the shoot.

The Wes Edwards-directed music video was shot at the Clementine in Nashville, Tennessee, with Bentley teaming up with his band - which includes fellow singer-songwriter Charlie Worsham.

"Holding an instrument that carries so much musical history and significance was surreal, you could almost feel the stories resonate from it as I played it," Bentley said in a press release. "Tom Petty's lyrics and delivery were a huge part of what made his music so impactful."

Bentley's cover version of "American Girl" will feature on the upcoming tribute album, Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty from Big Machine Records.

Petty's "American Girl," which became a staple of his set lists, appeared on the Heartbreakers' debut, self-titled album.

Black Sabbath Reveal Details Of Tony Martin Era Box Set 'Anno Domini 1989-1995'

Black Sabbath have revealed the details of a Tony Martin era box set Anno Domini 1989-1995.

The box set focuses on Black Sabbath's time with Martin, the band's second-longest-serving singer.

A new collection that brings four albums back into print after an extended absence, Anno Domini 1989-1995 will be available from Rhino on May 31 in 4-LP and 4-CD configurations.

The set contains newly remastered versions of Headless Cross (1989), Tyr (1990), and Cross Purposes (1994), plus a new version of Forbidden (1995) that the band's founder and guitarist Tony Iommi remixed specially for the collection.

The box set is available to pre-order at https://sabbath.lnk.to/AD8995

Speaking about Forbidden, which was the band's 18th studio album, Iommi said, "I was never happy with the guitar sound, and Cozy was definitely never happy with the drum sound. So, I thought it would be nice to do it for him in a way."

He adds, "I just felt that, without changing any of the songs, there was an opportunity to go back and bring out some of the sounds and make it more what people would expect Sabbath to sound like."

Joni Mitchell's Catalog Returns To Spotify

Joni Mitchell's Catalog Returns To Spotify

Joni Mitchell's catalog has been restored to the Spotify streaming services, more than two years after the singer pulled her music from the platform.

Mitchell had pulled her catalog from the streaming service in early 2022, in solidarity with Neil Young, citing concerns about the misinformation that was being spread about COVID-19 and the vaccine on Spotify's "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast.

"I've decided to remove all my music from Spotify. Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives. I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue," Mitchell posted on her official website at the time.

Young recently returned his music to Spotify after the end of Rogan's exclusivity deal with the streaming service, saying, "My decision comes as music services Apple and Amazon have started serving the same disinformation podcast features I had opposed at Spotify."

Following suit, Mitchell decided to return her catalog to Spotify. There is no official statement as yet from Mitchell about the decision.

Noticing the return of the catalog to the streaming service, fans started commenting on social media. "JONI MITCHELL MUSIC BACK ON SPOTIFY THIS IS NOT A DRILL," tweeted one user.

Longtime Styx Bassist Ricky Phillips Announces Departure From The Band

Longtime Styx bassist Ricky Phillips has announced that he is leaving the band after being a part of it for more than 20 years.

"Dear Friends, after touring for 50 years with The Babys, Bad English, opening for Tina Turner (on the Private Dancer tour with John Parr), Belinda Carlisle's first solo tour, rehearsing in Tahoe and recording at Little Mountain in Canada with Jimmy Page and David Coverdale and writing, touring, and co-producing 10/10 with Ronnie Montrose, to name a chosen few... I'm taking a breather," Phillips said in a statement,

Lemmy's Ashes To Be Enshrined At West Hollywood's Rainbow Bar & Grill

The Rainbow Bar & Grill announced via social media last week that the ashes of late Motorhead legend Lemmy Kilmister will be enshrined at the iconic hangout in West Hollywood on April 19th.

A Facebook post by the Rainbow invites fans and attendees to "raise a very unique toast to Lemmy and Motorhead with the unveiling of brand new Motorhead Whiskey."

"Please join us as we enshrine Lemmy's ashes at the Rainbow Bar & Grill. We also invite you to raise a very unique toast to Lemmy and Motorhead with the unveiling of brand new Motorhead Whiskey," reads the post.

The Rainbow Bar & Grill was one the late musician's favorite haunts, where he used to play the video poker machine regularly.

The Rainbow dedicated its patio to Lemmy in November 2016, renaming it "Lemmy's Lounge." A life-size bronze statue of Lemmy also resides on the patio.

Roxy owner Nic Adler and Goldenvoice's Paul Tollett agreed to allow the painting of a celebratory mural commemorating the life of Lemmy and Motorhead on the side wall of the Roxy, opposite Lemmy's Lounge and statue.

Lemmy passed away on December 28, 2015 at the age of 70 shortly after learning he had been diagnosed with cancer.

Paul Simon Provides Positive Update On Hearing Loss

Paul Simon Provides Positive Update On Hearing Loss

During the New York City premiere of his MGM+ docuseries, In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon last week, Paul Simon gave an update on his hearing loss.

"That's come back to enough of a degree that I'm comfortable singing and playing guitar and playing a few other instruments," Simon said of his hearing during a Q&A moderated by Stephen Colbert. "That's good. I can hear my voice the way I want it in the context of the music."

"If there's a drum or an electric guitar, it's too loud and I can't hear my voice," he explained to Colbert, who is deaf in his right ear. "But when I first lost the hearing, I couldn't get - it threw me off. Everything was coming from this side. But you know what I'm talking [about]."

The 16-time Grammy-winning singer first revealed his loss of hearing in the left ear in May 2023 during an interview with The Times.

"Quite suddenly I lost most of the hearing in my left ear, and nobody has an explanation for it," he said at the time. "So everything became more difficult. My reaction to that was frustration and annoyance; not quite anger yet, because I thought it would pass, it would repair itself."

The legend said that he lost his hearing while working on his most recent album, Seven Psalms, which was released on May 19, 2023.

Eddie Vedder Compares Taylor Swift Fans To 'Punk Rock Crowds'

Eddie Vedder Compares Taylor Swift Fans To 'Punk Rock Crowds'

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder said in a recent interview with Mojo that he sees similarities between Taylor Swift's fans and the punk rock crowds of his youth.

Vedder, who said he made it to a Swift concert after one of his daughters convinced him to attend, added that he was immediately impressed by the communal atmosphere surrounding the show.

"The run-up to it, making friendship bracelets with her and the generosity of these young girls and boys, trading these bracelets with different messages on them - lyrics, song titles, just acts of goodwill on these little bracelets," Vedder explained in the interview. "They had found their tribe; they were all agreeing on something."

Vedder said that he saw a distinct similarity between Swifties and punk rock crowds despite the totally different musical style.

"The craziest thing," the singer noted, "was it reminded me of punk rock crowds, of being aligned with all of the misfits in our town, back in the day. It was galvanizing and powerful."
