'80s Hair Metal Docuseries 'Nothin But A Good Time' Coming To Paramount+

'80s Hair Metal Docuseries 'Nothin But A Good Time' Coming To Paramount+

Paramount+ has announced that a new docuseries on '80s Hair Metal will premiere exclusively on the service later this year.

Directed by Jeff Tremaine, "Nöthin' But A Good Time: The Uncensored Story Of '80s Hair Metal" showcases the notoriously wild '80s hard rock phenomenon and features interviews with those who lived the scene, including Bret Michaels, Stephen Pearcy, Nuno Bettencourt, Dave "Snake" Sabo, and Riki Rachtman, along with Corey Taylor and Steve-O, among many others.

Based on the acclaimed book "Nöthin But a Good Time: The Uncensored History of the '80s Hard Rock Explosion" by rock journalists Tom Beaujour and Richard Bienstock, the three-part series delivers a fresh and shockingly candid behind-the-scenes look at one of music's most iconic eras.

"This docuseries is a celebration of the most outrageous decade in rock n' roll. It's my love letter to the '80s," said Tremaine.

"Nöthin' But A Good Time: The Uncensored Story Of '80s Hair Metal" is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, Gorilla Flicks, and Spoke Studios.

Scorpions Biopic 'Wind Of Change' In The Works

Scorpions Biopic 'Wind Of Change' In The Works

A biopic on German rock icons Scorpions, titled Wind of Change, is in the works from ESX Entertainment.

According to Deadline, Ali Afshar's ESX Entertainment has signed on to develop and produce the musical biopic Wind of Change, which will tell the story of "three unlikely friends whose passion for rock n' roll fueled their rise from the ashes of post-World War II Germany to the global stardom in the 1980s as the multi-platinum rock band Scorpions."

"The Scorpions' music has penetrated our culture in a big way," Afshar tells Deadline. "There is an evocative quality to their sound that is unmatched in the genre, which is one of the reasons hits like 'Rock You Like a Hurricane' and 'Still Loving You' continue to get so much airplay and fill movie soundtracks, and their music continues to connect with a new generation of fans across the globe."

Production on Wind of Change is expected to begin in Europe later this year, with a planned 2025 release, which will also be the band's 60th anniversary.

The movie's title comes from the band's 1991 global hit single, which was released after the failed coup that would lead to the end of the Soviet Union.

Queen Catalog Reportedly To Be Acquired By Sony Music For Over $1 Billion

Queen Catalog Reportedly To Be Acquired By Sony Music For Over $1 Billion

Queen have reportedly agreed to sell their recording, publishing and other rights to Sony Music for a record-smashing $1.27 billion.

According to Hits, the deal also includes name and likeness rights, potentially opening the door to musicals, commercial and film placements, merchandising and other money-making opportunities.

Complicating the deal is the fact that Disney Music Group owns Queen's recorded music catalog in North America, which it acquired at some point in the 2000s.

Disney and Universal Music Group will permanently retain the rights to distribute Queen's records in North America, but the band's share of the royalties will now go to Sony Music.

For the rest of the world, those rights are expected to transfer from current owners UMG to Sony Music in either 2026 or 2027.

According to Variety, the only revenue not covered in the deal is for live performances, which founding members Brian May and Roger Taylor, who still actively tour with singer Adam Lambert, will retain. Bassist John Deacon retired shortly after the 1991 death of founding singer Freddie Mercury.

The band's 2018 autobiographical film Bohemian Rhapsody earned over $900 million worldwide.

David Gilmour Shares 'Between Two Points' With Daughter Romany Gilmour

David Gilmour recently shared a new single, "Between Two Points," featuring his daughter Romany Gilmour.

The song arrived with an accompanying video, which was shot on location in London and Manchester, with David on guitars and featuring Romany on vocals and harp.

The song is from Gilmour's upcoming record, Luck and Strange, which is due out on September 6th via Sony Music.

"I've had that song on my playlist since it was released," Gilmour said about "Between Two Points," a reworking of The Montgolfier Brothers' 1999 song. "More recently I mentioned it to one or two people: I assumed that it had been a hit, but no one knew it. I asked Romany to give it a go. I realized that Romany has exactly the right sort of vulnerability and youth for the song."

R.E.M. Perform Live For The First Time In Fifteen Years

R.E.M. Perform Live For The First Time In Fifteen Years

R.E.M. played "Losing My Religion" at the Songwriters Hall of Fame gala in New York on Thursday (June 13), performing live for the first time in more than 15 years.

In a recent interview with CBS This Morning, R.E.M. had said it would take a comet for the Georgia foursome - Michael Stipe, Mike Mills, Bill Berry and Peter Buck - to reunite.

Jason Isbell, who inducted R.E.M. into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, said, "The songs they created served a real purpose for kids like me growing up in a small southern town. Somebody out there reluctantly clawing their way into the mainstream who was just as strange and out of place and time as I was. R.E.M. was greater than the sum of its parts. R.E.M. moved like a single instrument."

Isbell also paid tribute to the band by covering "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)."

"Writing songs and having a catalog of work that we're all proud of that is out there for the rest of the world for all time is hands-down the most important aspect of what we did. Second to that is that we managed to do so all those decades and remain friends. And not just friends, dear friends," Stipe said.

"We are four people that very early on decided that we would own our own masters and we would split our royalties and songwriting credits equally," he continued. "All for one and one for all."

The band's last full concert was in November 2008 in Mexico City.

"The surf guitar at the intro - the Dick Dale bit - that's me!" explains Dickinson about "Resurrection Men." "We were just mucking around with the tremolo setting, we put the chords down and I went, 'Ok, that's kinda cool!' It was like, 'What if Quentin Tarantino made a metal record?'" he adds. "Then it goes somewhere different, we get a bit heavy, and we did this whole middle section and it was like, 'Were you just channeling Geezer Butler in another life?' It was early Sabbath - Behind the Wall of Sleep. Just, 'Oh my god that's heavy!'"

The three-track CD comes in a gatefold digi-sleeve and includes a limited number of double-sided Mandrake Movie Posters with pre-orders via the official Mandrake Project store, reflecting the comic book artwork for Episode 3 which will be released via Z2 comics on July 17th.

Def Leppard Release New Single 'Just Like 73' Featuring Tom Morello

Def Leppard recently released a new single, "Just Like 73," featuring Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello.

The song arrives on 7-inch vinyl on August 2 and will be available in a special color variant only through the band's D2C store and in black at all retailers.

"Just Like 73" marks the first collaboration between Def Leppard and Morello.

"It encapsulates a time that burned deep into our DNA. We wanted to celebrate that very important and glorious time," says Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott.

"When I saw David Bowie on TV between 1972 and 1973, everything I thought I knew about music went from black and white to vivid technicolor," guitarist Phil Collen adds. "Our song 'Just Like 73' represents that awakening."

"I had a blast rocking a solo on "Just Like 73," says Morello. "I played 'Rock Of Ages' in my college cover band almost 40 years ago and here Def Leppard are still killing it in stadiums with a brand new tune that's one of their best."

An animated music video for Just Like 73 will be released on June 20 at 4 PM BST.
