Neon and Universal Pictures have announced that an officially sanctioned documentary film on David Bowie will be released in cinemas and IMAX globally on September 16.

Moonage Daydream will have a delayed entry in Japanese theaters in March next year.

The film is described as a “cinematic odyssey” that will showcase the music legend’s life and shed light on the various art forms he explored, such as dance, painting, sculpture, screenwriting, and live theater, encapsulating his creative, musical, and spiritual journey.

Neon will distribute the film in the U.S., with UPCG releasing it internationally. HBO Documentary Films holds North American rights for streaming and cable in spring of 2023.

48 of Bowie’s musical tracks are featured in the docufilm.

Moonage Daydream is directed, written, edited and produced by Brett Morgen.
