German rock band Scorpions‘ iconic video for “Wind of Change” now has more than one billion views on YouTube.

“Wind of Change” is a power ballad inspired by a 1989 gig at the Moscow Music Peace Festival.

“1 Billion views on the ‘Wind of Change’ video!!! What a milestone. Thank you to all the Rock Believers for watching,” Scorpions tweeted.

“Wind of Change” is related to the political changes in Eastern Europe in the 1980s-90s. While it was originally about the fall of the Soviet Union, it became the anthem for German Reunification after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

The video has images of protests in China’s Tiananmen Square, the fall of the Berlin wall, rolling tanks, and economic disasters.

The rock anthem, written by Klaus Meine and his bandmates, reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is the best-selling single by a German artist.

The power ballad was uploaded to YouTube in November 2009.

Rock Believer, the band’s latest studio album, was released in February last year.
